Not long ago, his father was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately passed away because of it. Sadly, now Jake has also been diagnosed with cancer and we are trying to help him and his mother deal with this latest tragedy. STANDARD CLASS INFO: (Private Classes Available Wednesdays – See Below or Call for Details) This is a one-day class in Rifle, Colorado. (See the map.) Class begins at 8:00 a.m. SHARP and lasts until around 5:00 p.m.. Students that show up late will not be allowed to attend the class. Please be on time. The cost is $100.00 per person and rental guns are available for $25.00 and students must provide their own ammunition. After classroom instruction, we will shoot at the Rifle Sportsmen’s Club. There is a map at our website. Classes fill up quickly and enrollment is limited so you MUST pre-pay to register. Contact Edward Wilks at 625-GUNS (4867) to sign up. Private, corporate, and group classes are also available. The Law: Colorado is a “shall issue” state which means that the Sheriff must issue a Concealed Weapons Permit to all qualified individuals. Citizens do not need to explain a “need” or “reason.” (Contact your Sheriff for more info.) After you successfully complete the class, take the training certificate to your local Sheriff and apply for the permit. If you live in Garfield County, you will do this in Glenwood Springs where they will take your fingerprints and photographs. The fee there is $100.00 for the permit (cash or check) and $52.50 (money order or cashier’s check made out to “C.B.I.”) for the background check. You may renew your permit for $63.00 every five years. There are approximately thirty (30) states that honor a Colorado Concealed Weapon Permit, including most of the states around us like Arizona, Idaho, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Wyoming and others. Reciprocity and gun laws are constantly updating, so check with your area law enforcement agency, or our website under the “INFORMATION” tab, or other websites like CBI at http://cbi.state.co.us/ccw/reciprocity.asp or others like www.nraila.org/GunLaws/ or www.handgunlaw.us and www.ccrkba.org for more info. Class Info: Class size is limited and is filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please Note: Due to popularity and demand, enrollment usually fills up two or three months prior to the class. Reservations will only be made upon receipt of payment. The best thing to do is call us at the store at 625-4867 and pay with your credit or debit card over the phone. Only when payment is received will your placement be secured. Also, remember to check www.625guns.com for all current and updated information. Requirements: NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. You will learn what you need to know in this class, from law and liability, to carrying and shooting. However, you MUST be capable of being alert, attentive, responsible and safe with a handgun around others. Please, you MUST be on time for this class. We begin evaluating your compliance to rules the moment you walk in the door. Being late disrupts class and does not reflect well on you as a student. You MUST be absolutely obedient to instructors. You MUST sign a waiver form. If you cannot be safe, obedient, listen or submit to instruction, do not come. Students that fail to meet these requirements will immediately forfeit their fees and will be REMOVED FROM CLASS! Also Important: Upon arrival, students SHALL NOT bring their handguns into the classroom. Students SHALL NOT bring ANY ammunition, casings, or bullets into the classroom. No drinking alcohol before (24 hours prior) or during class. No alcohol in your system or on your breath. No vulgar, sexist, or racist language or behavior. We want a safe and proper learning environment. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is all common sense. Equipment: The firearm must be safe, reliable, and accurate. It must be proper and appropriate for concealed carry. No single-shot derringers, but no huge “Dirty-Harry” cannons, either. 5 to 7-shot double-action revolvers with 6-inch barrels or less. (No single-action revolvers.) Sub-compact to standard-sized firearms only. 50 bullets (one standard box of 50 rounds) and must be factory-loaded, NO RELOADED AMMUNITION ALLOWED! (Proper pants, belt, and holster, speed-loader or extra magazines are not required, but helpful.) If you have not yet bought a handgun, we STRONGLY recommend that you wait until AFTER the class to make your choice. We have stories and examples of the strengths and failures of most common firearms and you will no doubt want to consider these recommendations prior to spending hundreds of dollars on something you may end up hating. Clothing: Proper clothing for sun and weather protection and protective wear for shooting is a must. We shoot rain or shine. Long pants are required. No shorts or skirts. No open-collar or low-cut shirts (especially with ladies) as ejected brass can land in the opening and burn the neck and chest. Bring proper eye and hearing protection for shooting. Glasses with plastic or poly-carbonate lenses are preferred. Most sunglasses and prescription glasses are considered acceptable. Soft foam earplugs and/or over-the-ear hearing protection is approved. A brimmed hat or ball-cap is recommended to help prevent ejected-brass from landing in your face. Proper footwear is required. No sandals or flip-flops. Please do not wear any camouflage or military-style clothing. There is no cell phone use allowed during instruction except for emergency or on-call personnel. Please keep your cell phones off throughout the class. Snacks and drinks are permitted. We will break for lunch and you may either bring your own food, or eat out. Instructors: Edward Wilks and Dave Hatch. Edward is a former police officer with 10 years law enforcement training and experience. He is a certified firearms instructor with 22+ years of firearms teaching experience. Certifications include: NRA, Law Enforcement Tactical Instructor, SWAT, Executive Security International, Defensive Technologies, Glock, CLETA, and others. Dave Hatch is a current police officer and is also an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor. He has taught for several years including helping youth and first-time shooters improve their skills. Both instructors are highly experienced professionals and their teaching style helps establish a fun and comfortable learning environment for shooters of any level. Private Classes: We offer a variety of exclusive training options for our clients that want or require discrete or private classes due to confidentiality or scheduling concerns. In today’s society, it seems that there are more and more individuals and organization that refuse to support us in our right to self-defense. Because of potential harassment and discrimination, we find ourselves having to be “reserved” with our firearms and training. Or, you may simply desire the personal, one-on-one attention that guarantees a higher degree of learning and comfort. Also, our public classes are booked up so far in advance that time may be of the essence and a sooner, private class is necessary. Either way, we understand your needs and will try to help you any way we can. We offer private classes (usually on Wednesdays) and are willing to travel to your home if necessary. However, because of high costs and high demand coupled with limited time and limited resources, private classes can become expensive. A standard, public class generates between $1600 and $3200 in fees. Private rates are: One to six persons = $1000. Seven to twelve persons = $1800. Other rates as applicable. Families and children are welcome – even encouraged – as it helps create an environment of safety, preparedness, and understanding while minimizing curiosity and inappropriate fascination that can lead to tragedy. We also offer corporate rates, advanced classes, scheduled recertification, as well as specialized training and risk assessment.
